اسفن (Sphene / Titanite)

اسفن که با نام علمی تیتانیت (Titanite) نیز شناخته می‌شود، یکی از گوهرهای طبیعی و چشمگیر خانواده کانی‌های سیلیکاته است که به دلیل پراکندگی نوری بسیار بالا، درخشش قوی و بازی رنگی چشمگیر شهرت دارد. این ویژگی باعث می‌شود اسفن تراش‌خورده در نور، آتش و طیف‌های رنگی جذابی شبیه به جلوه‌های منشوری از خود نشان دهد

اسفن جواهری از مناطقی مانند ماداگاسکار، پاکستان، هند، برزیل و مکزیک به‌دست می‌آید. ماداگاسکار و پاکستان از منابع شناخته‌شده نمونه‌های شفاف و باکیفیت جواهری هستند

در ارزیابی اسفن، رنگ، شفافیت، شدت پراکندگی و آتش، پاکی، کیفیت و تناسب تراش، وزن، ابعاد و کمیابی اهمیت دارند. نمونه‌هایی با شفافیت بالا، رنگ جذاب و آتش شدید، به‌ویژه در اندازه‌های بزرگ‌تر، از جذابیت بیشتری در بازار گوهرهای رنگی برخوردارند

اسفن سختی حدود ۵ تا ۵.۵ در مقیاس موس دارد و به دلیل سختی نسبتاً پایین و حساسیت بیشتر در برابر خراش و ضربه، معمولاً برای آویز، گوشواره و جواهرات با استفاده محافظت‌شده مناسب‌تر است

The value of Sphene is influenced by color, transparency, intensity of dispersion and fire, clarity, cutting quality and proportions, carat weight, dimensions, and rarity. Transparent specimens with attractive color and strong fire, particularly in larger sizes, can be especially appealing in the colored gemstone market. Precise cutting is also important, as it can significantly enhance the gemstone’s brilliance and optical dispersion

Sphene has a hardness of approximately 5–5.5 on the Mohs scale. Due to its relatively low hardness and greater sensitivity to scratches and impact, it is generally more suitable for pendants, earrings, and jewelry designs where the gemstone is well protected. Transparent, highly dispersive, and rare Sphene specimens are particularly appreciated by collectors of fine colored gemstones
