زیرکن (Zircon)

زیرکن یکی از قدیمی‌ترین و ارزشمندترین کانی‌های طبیعی مورد استفاده در جواهرسازی است که به دلیل ضریب شکست نوری بالا، درخشش قابل‌توجه و پراکندگی نوری چشمگیر شناخته می‌شود. زیرکن طبیعی در طیف متنوعی از رنگ‌ها از جمله بی‌رنگ، آبی، زرد، نارنجی، قهوه‌ای، قرمز و سبز دیده می‌شود و نمونه‌های مرغوب آن می‌توانند درخشش و آتش بسیار جذابی داشته باشند. زیرکن از نظر کانی‌شناسی با الماس و زیرکونیای مکعبی (Cubic Zirconia) کاملاً متفاوت است

از مهم‌ترین منابع زیرکن جواهری می‌توان به سریلانکا، کامبوج، میانمار، تایلند، استرالیا و تانزانیا اشاره کرد. منطقه راتناپورا (Ratnapura) در سریلانکا یکی از منابع شناخته‌شده زیرکن‌های جواهری است و کامبوج و تانزانیا نیز نمونه‌های رنگی و باکیفیتی تولید می‌کنند

در ارزیابی زیرکن، رنگ، شفافیت، پاکی، میزان درخشش و آتش، کیفیت و تناسب تراش، وزن، ابعاد و کمیابی اهمیت دارند. نمونه‌های طبیعی با رنگ‌های جذاب، شفافیت بالا، درخشش قوی و تراش دقیق می‌توانند ارزش و جذابیت بیشتری در بازار گوهرهای رنگی داشته باشند

زیرکن دارای سختی حدود ۶.۵ تا ۷.۵ در مقیاس موس است. به دلیل درخشش بالا و تنوع رنگی، در انگشتر، آویز، گوشواره و جواهرات فاخر استفاده می‌شود. نمونه‌های کمیاب و باکیفیت طبیعی نیز مورد توجه مجموعه‌داران گوهرهای رنگی قرار می‌گیرند

Zircon

Zircon is one of the oldest and most valuable natural gem minerals used in jewelry, renowned for its high refractive index, remarkable brilliance, and strong optical dispersion. Natural Zircon occurs in a wide range of colors, including colorless, blue, yellow, orange, brown, red, and green. Fine specimens can display exceptional brilliance and attractive fire. From a mineralogical perspective, Zircon is completely different from both diamond and Cubic Zirconia

Important sources of gem-quality Zircon include Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Australia, and Tanzania. Ratnapura in Sri Lanka is a well-known source of gem-quality Zircon, while Cambodia and Tanzania are also recognized for producing attractive and high-quality colored specimens

The value of Zircon is influenced by color, transparency, clarity, brilliance and fire, cutting quality and proportions, carat weight, dimensions, and rarity. Natural specimens with attractive color, high transparency, strong brilliance, and precise cutting can be particularly desirable in the colored gemstone market

Zircon has a hardness of approximately 6.5–7.5 on the Mohs scale. Its exceptional brilliance and wide range of colors make it suitable for rings, pendants, earrings, and fine jewelry. Rare and high-quality natural specimens are also highly appreciated by collectors of fine colored gemstones
