موزانایت (Moissanite) در سال ۱۸۹۳ توسط شیمیدان فرانسوی، هانری مویسان، در دهانه شهاب‌سنگ کانیون دیابلو در آریزونا کشف شد و بعدها به افتخار او موزانایت نام گرفت. این گوهر از کاربید سیلیسیم تشکیل شده و به‌دلیل درخشش بسیار زیاد و آتش نوری چشمگیر، شباهت قابل‌توجهی به الماس دارد

موزانایت طبیعی بسیار کمیاب است و مهم‌ترین منشأ شناخته‌شده آن شهاب‌سنگ کانیون دیابلو در آریزونا و برخی ذخایر بسیار محدود مرتبط با مواد شهاب‌سنگی است؛ تقریباً تمام موزانایت موجود در بازار امروزی به‌صورت آزمایشگاهی تولید می‌شود

در بازار جهانی، ارزش موزانایت بر اساس رنگ، شفافیت، کیفیت و دقت تراش، اندازه، وزن و کیفیت نوری تعیین می‌شود. نمونه‌های نزدیک به بی‌رنگ با تراش ممتاز، درخشش بالا و کیفیت ساخت مطلوب، معمولاً ارزش و تقاضای بیشتری دارند

Moissanite was discovered in 1893 by French chemist Henri Moissan in the Canyon Diablo meteorite crater in Arizona and was later named in his honor.
